EDF Hinkley Point - Consultation Material

Prior to its acquisition of British Energy in January 2009, EDF Energy undertook preliminary public consultation on plans for new nuclear development on land it owned at Hinkley Point.

This took place in autumn 2008 and focused on the scope of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and engaging with local stakeholders on potential new nuclear build at Hinkley Point as part of Government's SSA (strategic site assessment) for nuclear power stations.

The programme gave local people the opportunity to highlight issues that are important to them and has allowed EDF Energy to take these views into account when developing proposals for the Hinkley Point site.

Further consultation with the local community will be organised as the project moves forward. We are working with the relevant local authorities on our plans for future public consultation activities.

The initial consultation programme included:

Four public exhibitions| in, Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea, Stogursey and Williton.

British Energy also held five public meetings in Nether Stowey, Cannington, Bridgwater, Combwich and Stogursey to discuss their plans for a new power station on their Hinkley Point ‘C' site in the last quarter of 2008. Further details of the separate British Energy consultation, conducted before its acquisition by EDF Energy, can be found at http://www.british-energy.com. In order to ensure these separate consultations were as clear as possible and to allow the community the maximum opportunity to discuss current plans with the potential operators, representatives of EDF Energy and British Energy each attended the other's public events.

EDF Energy held a series of public exhibitions from 28 November to 14 December 2009. The exhibition is available to view at our office in King Square, Bridgwater or you can download a copy of the exhibition boards from our website.
