Supplier Day - 6th July
EDF Energy is inviting local companies to register their interest in attending an event in Bridgwater on Tuesday 6 July.
EDF Energy intends to build four new UK EPR reactors with the first two at Hinkley Point generating electricity by 2017 and commercially operational in 2018. Such major investment will generate significant commercial opportunities for local companies wishing to become an essential part of the supply chain.
To deliver a project of this size we will need to procure a wide range of contracts across all sectors, including engineering, construction, transport and services, with many of our contracts being open to non-nuclear specialists.
The aim of the event is to ensure that local companies are aware of the opportunities that EDF Energy's investment plans will create. Presentations and panel sessions led by key EDF Energy staff from engineering, quality and procurement divisions will help companies understand the requirements and how they can get involved.
The event will be held at the Exchange Conference Centre in Bridgwater and will take place from 9am to 5pm, with registration from 8.15am.

Nether Stowey May Fair
EDF Energy representatives attended the Nether Stowey May Fair, on a showery 1 May. We were in Nether Stowey to give energy saving tips and to supply information on how to save money in the home by reducing your carbon footprint. We had a warm welcome from local people and really enjoyed the day.
Ainslie Ensor (Event Organiser, Nether Stowey Parish Council) said: "Once again the event was a great success. In fact I think that despite the weather it was one of the best ever. EDF Energy entered into the spirit of the Fair by giving away hundreds of information leaflets and energy saving light bulbs and a variety of other freebies to fair goers; I understand that it was their frisbees that proved really popular."
Homes in Sedgemoor 'Worklessness' Event
Representatives from EDF Energy took part in a Homes in Sedgemoor event on ‘worklessness' in April. Homes in Sedgemoor is the organisation that looks after Sedgemoor District Council's 4,200 tenants and leasehold homes.
The event, held at Scott cinema in Bridgwater on 6 April, was organised for young people who are out of work and aimed to provide information on job possibilities in the area. A number of local organisations were in attendance, including Job Centre+.
West Somerset Community College Student Workshop
Staff from the EDF Energy Bridgwater office and graduates from the Hinkley Point B station held a workshop at West Somerset Community College on 23 March.
Students from Danesfield school in Williton, as well as students from the College took part in the two-hour workshop which involved looking at EDF Energy's plans to build a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point, and consider how it could affect them and the local community. The students also examined the wider effects of building a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK, on climate change and the environment.
The workshop followed a presentation by Hinkley Point B station director, Nigel Cann, to the WSCC students for winning a national competition for a short film they made about young people's perceptions of nuclear power in the Minehead area.
The Nuclear Institute's competition, sponsored by EDF Energy, offered £1000 to the winning entry, which was voted for by delegates at a major international conference.
